If you do not have a car there are train stations at Cabanos to the west or VN Cacela on the other side of the N125. Taxis are available in Manta Rota and it only costs a few euros to the station , taxi information is in the house folder. By train you can travel to Faro and Lagos to the west or VR San Antonio to the east.The train travels mostly along the coast and costs 3€ to Faro!
Faro is well worth a visit. journey about 45 minutes. Take the little tourist train around the town, it stops at places of interest, such as the church - Senhora do Carmo-with a chapel lined with monks skulls. There are lots of good places to eat and an attractive tiled shopping area. Further out of the town is a huge shopping mall called FORUM , good to visit on a wet day.

Tavira is 15 minutes away, a very old town on the river Gilao is spanned by a 17th century bridge which is lit up at night.There are boat trips out to the island where the beach is great.

Vila Real de San Antonio is the border town on the River Guadiana, 15 minutes away. From here you can catch a ferry over to the Spanish town of Ayamonte. The local shops specialise in Portuguese towels and bed linen. In the main square there are bars and celebrations are often held here.

Monte Gordo is 10 minutes away, a new tourist town with hotels bars and restaurants and even a nightclub called NOX. BAR 42 0n the seafront is lively and has SKY TV for sports. It has a fine beach and a Casino but is rather more commercialised than other places.
Golf is everywhere! there are six good golf courses within 20 mins of the house but they can be expensive if you don't pre-book.
